Dominican Republic Mission Team

Serving the People of the D.R. Since 1990

Since 1990, the Dominican Republic Mission Team ("DRMT") has been working with local partners in La Romana, DR, to serve the underprivileged in the bateyes and barrios. Founded initially at First Baptist Church of Wallingford, CT, the DRMT has grown over the years to where they now have four scheduled service trips to the DR per year, which includes up to 200 volunteers annually. The DRMT now supports dozens of partner organizations each year that send volunteers to La Romana on one of these four trips, including over churches, schools, Christian fellowships, businesses, and organizations.

While in La Romana, the DRMT works in conjunction with the Maranatha Church (our hosts and partners since 1990), El Buen Samaritano Hospital, Mission Maranatha, Beracca Church, the Joe Hartman School, and other ministry partners.

Batey Como Quiera

A batey is a “neigborhood” amongst the sugar cane fields surrounding La Romana, and the batey we are partnering with is called Como Quiera.

There are about 85 families living in Como Quiera in 60 houses, but this number fluctuates regularly as people move back and forth from Haiti depending on their circumstances. At this time, there is no running water or electricity in Como Quiera.  The residents get their water from a nearby well and cook over fire.
